Among the 14 winners of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) 2021 Christian Book Awards® in 12 categories are the NIV Study Bible, Fully Revised Edition (Zondervan, 2020) and The New Testament in Its World: An Introduction to the History, Literature, and Theology of the First Christians (Zondervan, 2020).
The Christian Book Award® program has recognized the absolute highest quality in Christian books since 1978. Based on excellence in content, literary quality, design, and impact, the Christian Book Award® program is the oldest and among the most prestigious awards in the religious publishing industry.
Winning Bibles and books were announced May 6 in a live webcast to an audience of more than 400 industry professionals, authors, and publishers. The ceremony included the presentation of the Pinnacle Award for the outstanding contribution of his writing to the industry and to society at large to bestselling author Max Lucado, whose products, including The Lucado Encouraging Word Bible (Thomas Nelson, 2020), have exceeded sales of more than 145 million, with book sales exceeding 130 million, distributed in 80 countries and translated into 45 languages worldwide.

Max is a pastor and speaker who, in his own words, “writes books for people who don’t read books.” He serves the people of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Texas, and his message is for the hurting, the guilty, the lonely, and the discouraged: God loves you; let him. He’s been dubbed “America’s Pastor” by Christianity Today and “The Best Preacher in America” by Reader’s Digest.
Max published his first trade book, On the Anvil, in 1985. His latest title, Begin Again: Your Hope and Renewal Start Today (Thomas Nelson), was released in January 2021. His books regularly appear on bestseller lists, including The New York Times. His writing has also been featured in Bible studies, Bible commentaries, songs, greeting cards, and even plush toys. Twenty-three of his titles have sold more than 1 million copies. ECPA has presented a total of 43 industry awards to Max Lucado titles—including 16 Christian Book Awards.
